What are Flamengo's chances against the Europeans at the Ballon d'Or? See how the club of the year award works

Flamengo is the only club from outside Europe among the nominees for the best club of the year award at the 2026 Ballon d'Or, presented by French magazine France Football. The Brazilian club, champion of the Libertadores and the Brasileirão in 2025, competes for the honor with European giants Bayern Munich, Arsenal, and PSG, as well as the season's sensation Bodo/Glimt.

Flamengo repeats Botafogo's nomination from last year, when the Brazilian club also competed for the award after winning the Brasileirão and the Libertadores. However, on that occasion, the trophy went to PSG, which had also won the Champions League in addition to its titles in France.

PSG returns to the competition as European champion, with an additional argument this time: they also won the FIFA Intercontinental Club World Cup, defeating Flamengo to claim the title on penalties after a 1-1 draw.

The two clubs are the only continental champions among the candidates for the Ballon d'Or club of the year award, which seeks to recognize the best team in the world. The voting considers achievements in different competitions throughout the season.
