Tung Chee-hwa passed away at the age of 89. He was the first leader of Hong Kong after the sovereignty transition from British administration to Chinese, in 1997. Tung Chee-hwa assumed the position of Chief Executive of the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region at the moment of the transfer of authority, remaining in the post until 2005. His death marks the passing of a central figure in the contemporary political history of Hong Kong.
