The President of the United States, Donald Trump, threatened to exclude Canadian products from US government purchases. The announcement was made through his account on the social network Truth Social.
Trump stated that government procurement programs represent more than 50 billion dollars annually in trade between the two countries.
The threat comes in the context of ongoing trade tensions between the United States and Canada, with Trump frequently criticizing the American trade deficit with its northern neighbor.
This is not the first time Trump has used tariff threats and trade restrictions as a negotiating tool with Canada.
