PL leadership is taking advantage of the escalation of the crisis between Supreme Court justices Alexandre de Moraes and André Mendonça to pressure Senate President Davi Alcolumbre and try to prevent his remaining as president of the chamber in 2027. The party believes that the dispute between the justices has opened an opportunity for this political move.
One of the strategies being prepared is to take the conflict to the campaign trail later this year. PL will demand that its Senate candidates commit to not voting for Alcolumbre for president of the chamber next year, attempting to build during the campaign a bloc committed to changing Senate leadership.
Alcolumbre's resistance to advancing the impeachment of Moraes is to be turned into an electoral argument by the party. Allies of Flavio Bolsonaro (PL-RJ) have already closed ranks in defense of Mendonça after the justice ordered...
