United States Secretary of Transportation criticizes Ford over China ties

RTP Notícias9 September 2026 at 07:40

United States Secretary of Transportation Sean Duffy criticized Ford on Tuesday for using Chinese technologies in its vehicles. The accusations arise in a context of trade tensions between the United Unidos and China, with the American government pressuring automobile manufacturers to reduce their dependence on Chinese technologies.

Ford responded to the criticism by classifying it as a "failed attempt to get headlines", thus rejecting the secretary's allegations. The automobile manufacturer did not specify which Chinese technologies were referred to by Duffy.

This is not the first time the United States government has expressed concerns regarding the presence of Chinese technologies in the North American automobile industry. Previous administrations also attempted to restrict Chinese technology companies' access to the United States automobile market.

Ford is one of the largest automobile manufacturers in the United States and has invested significantly in electric vehicles. The company did not comment in detail on the accusations, limiting itself to issuing a brief response to the Secretary of Transportation's criticism.
