STF Ministers show discomfort with Fachin's deadlines and prolongation of the crisis

The president of the Supreme Federal Court (STF), Edson Fachin, granted a 72-hour deadline for the attorney general of the Union, André Mendonça, to respond to an AGU request against the decision that provisionally removed the director-general of the Federal Police, Andrei Rodrigues. The decision prolongs the scenario of uncertainty about the crisis installed at the Court.

Ministers heard by GLOBO on condition of anonymity assess that the succession of new steps before a resolution drags on the crisis and keeps the Court subjected to a deterioration that has already been dragging on for days. The dispute directly involves fellow Court members, André Mendonça and Alexandre de Moraes.

The assessment among members of the Court is that, although Fachin sought to act cautiously in the face of the impasse, the absence of a solution begins to take a toll on the presidency itself. There are ministers who argue that, given the escalation of the crisis, the president should take charge of an institutional way out, rather than allowing the confrontation to continue unfolding.
