China tests giant aircraft model to transport 800 passengers at a speed of 1,000 km/h

Meteored Portugal9 September 2026 at 06:01

China is testing a high-capacity aircraft based on the Blended Wing Body (BWB) configuration, or integrated wing body, developed by the China Aerodynamics Research and Development Center (CARDC). The project aims to integrate the central fuselage and wings into a single continuous surface, with the goal of reducing aerodynamic drag.

The designed aircraft will have more than 800 seats, a wingspan of 85 meters, and a cruise speed close to 1,000 km/h. The dimensions exceed the limit of Code F of the International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO).

The project is still in the model testing phase, with no scheduled date for the beginning of construction. This initiative represents a significantly different approach from the conventional architecture of passenger aircraft.
