The European Commission adopted a Communication on a new Strategic Approach for Research and Innovation in the agri-food sector, bringing together the AgRI 2040 and Food 2040 frameworks, which will be implemented between 2028 and 2034 under Horizon Europe and the European Competitiveness Fund. The strategy aims to strengthen the innovation ecosystem, accelerate the application of knowledge and promote collaboration between end users, researchers and businesses, converting European scientific excellence into practical solutions for farmers, foresters and consumers. Commissioner Christophe Hansen highlighted the transformative potential of research and innovation for agriculture and rural area management, while Commissioner Ekaterina Zaharieva emphasised the goal of helping innovators translate bold ideas into solutions that increase competitiveness and ensure food security and sustainability.
