Minister André Mendonça of the Supreme Federal Court (STF) revoked on Tuesday the electronic monitoring by ankle monitor of Ahmed Mohamad Oliveira Andrade, former Labor Minister under Jair Bolsonaro and former president of the INSS. Ahmed was under investigation by the Federal Police in an operation that probes illegal deductions from pensions and retirement benefits of the National Institute of Social Security, with suspicion of receiving R$ 100,000 in a fraudulent scheme.
Mendonça accepted the request from the Attorney General's Office (PGR), which recommended the release from the electronic ankle monitor. The PGR argued that Ahmed did not adopt behavior harmful to the investigations. The former director of the INSS was arrested in November last year.
In substitution for electronic monitoring, the reporting minister of the case at the STF determined other precautionary measures. Ahmed is prohibited from maintaining contact with other investigated individuals and from leaving the country, and must surrender his passport within the next 24 hours.
