The Elevador da Glória, in Lisbon, returned to the center of a political controversy. The Left Block presented a motion related to the accident involving the funicular, demanding political accountability for the situation.
The motion was ultimately approved in the municipal assembly, benefiting from a distraction on the part of the Chega party. Chega's deputies intended to vote against the motion, which would have resulted in its rejection, but ended up not being able to cast that vote.
PSD, CDS-PP and Iniciativa Liberal voted against the BE motion. However, the absence of organized opposition from Chega allowed the motion to pass with votes in favor from the left.
The Elevador da Glória accident has been generating political debate, with different parties demanding explanations and accountability regarding the operation and safety of this Lisbon infrastructure.
