President Lula did not comment on the decision by Justice André Mendonça, of the Supreme Federal Court, which determined the removal of the Federal Police director-general, Andrei Rodrigues, during an event commemorating Amazon Day. Lula focused his speech on environmental actions by the federal government.
On Tuesday (08), the president signed decrees expanding conservation units in Piauí and creating new protected areas in Amazonas. The event celebrated Amazon Day.
During the event, Lula defended oil exploration in the Equatorial Margin, in the Amazon River mouth region. According to the president, the resources obtained from the activity can fund the energy transition and contribute to the reduction of fossil fuel use. Lula stated that Petrobras has the technology to safely carry out exploration in deep waters.
The president also defended a solution for BR-319, the highway connecting Manaus, in Amazonas, to Porto Velho, in Rondônia, stating that it is possible to ensure the region's development without compromising the environment.
