Benfica SAD sees profits decline to 19.1 million in the 2025/26 season

Jornal Económico8 September 2026 at 22:36

Benfica SAD achieved a positive net result of 19.1 million euros in the 2025/26 fiscal year, the second consecutive year with profits, although lower than the 34.4 million recorded in the previous season. The operating result reached 32.4 million euros and the result from player rights grew 1.4% to 47.4 million euros.

Among the revenue sources, matchday earnings reached a historical high of 45.2 million euros, up 8.5% from the previous year, while television revenues grew 5.7% to 55.7 million euros, also a record figure. However, operating revenues without player rights declined 7% to 214.4 million euros, mainly due to performance in the Champions League and the non-repetition of the Club World Cup revenues.

On the cost side, operating expenses without player rights increased 1.2% to 229.4 million euros, although the SAD reduced personnel costs and Benfica brand royalties combined by 2.5 million euros. The financial position improved, with net debt falling 6.1% to 184.9 million euros and equity growing 16.5% to 135.5 million euros.

The SAD president, Rui Costa, states that the results reinforce the conviction that financial sustainability and sporting ambition are inseparable dimensions of the same project, reflecting the continuity of the club's sustainable growth strategy and financial discipline.

AI in Business Decisions: Data and Human Judgment

A global study by the IBM Institute for Business Value with 2,000 CEOs and executives from 33 countries revealed that 64% already feel comfortable making major strategic decisions based on AI-generated information, although 83% stated that the success of the technology depends more on adoption by people than on the technology itself. Another survey with over 400 board members, CEOs, and CFOs showed that 84% of boards have already discussed which decisions should remain under human responsibility and which can have greater participation from artificial intelligence, evidencing a shift in corporate governance.
