Business group to release manifesto calling for 'code of conduct' in higher courts

oglobo8 September 2026 at 22:08

A group of businessmen and associations representing the industry and commerce sectors releases on Wednesday a manifesto calling for a code of conduct for higher courts, in addition to creating a body to investigate collegiate panels. The text does not mention specific names, but is interpreted as a response from the private sector to the crisis that settled in the Supreme Federal Court following episodes involving Ministers Alexandre de Moraes and André Mendonça.

The manifesto calls for "complete, swift, and independent investigation of the facts and responsibilities" and precautionary removal of those under investigation. The text states that the facts revealed by the Master case investigation outrage Brazilians and undermine the population's trust in Justice, defending that no one is above the law, as had already been defended in a manifesto released last year.

The initiative occurs amid pressure on the STF, with emphasis on Minister Edson Fachin's assessment about the possibility of replacing André Mendonça in the rapporteurship of the Master and INSS cases. The document seeks to reinforce the private sector's position in light of the controversies surrounding Brazil's highest court.
