AfD triumph "will contribute to the narrative that the far-right is victorious across borders", but domino effect is not inevitable

Expresso8 September 2026 at 21:21

The far-right victory in Germany, materialized by the AfD in a small federal state, should not be underestimated, although on its own it does not presuppose a domino effect in other European countries, according to analysts consulted by Expresso. The position of these specialists is clear: although significant, the AfD victory is not inevitable to replicate across borders.

The more immediate danger, already present in several countries, is the inclusion of radical parties in government coalitions. This trend represents a concrete threat to European political stability, regardless of similar electoral victories in other countries.

The analysts also warn of another dangerous phenomenon: the programmatic convergence of mainstream parties toward disruptive far-right ideas. This strategy is seen as a futile hope to stem the hemorrhage of votes to radical parties, rather than an effective solution.

Middle East: Netanyahu's office denies warning about imminent Hamas attack

The office of Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu categorically denied having received a warning from the United Arab Emirates about an imminent Hamas attack days before October 7, 2023. According to the Haaretz newspaper, based on a book to be released soon, the President of the United Arab Emirates, Mohammed bin Zayed, contacted Netanyahu during the last week of September 2023 to alert him that Hamas was planning a major operation, information that Netanyahu allegedly did not pass on to his security chiefs. The Emirates refused to comment directly on the allegation, but indicated that relevant intelligence information is shared when necessary. The publication of this investigation provoked strong criticism from the Israeli opposition, which is demanding an independent inquiry commission, at a time when Israel is preparing for legislative elections on October 27.

New York admits lie about toxic air after September 11: the truth has now been revealed in 170,000 pages of records

New York revealed more than 170,000 pages of documents about air quality after the September 11 attacks, exposing that authorities knew about the risks of exposure to toxic substances released by the collapse of the Twin Towers, despite having publicly assured that the air was safe to breathe. These records demonstrate an apparent contradiction between internal knowledge of the dangers and the reassuring public statements directed at the population and survivors.
