Botafogo presented on Tuesday their eighth signing of the transfer window, defender Arthur Chaves, 25 years old, formerly of Hoffenheim, from Germany. The player arrives at the black-and-white club on loan until the end of 2027. Botafogo will pay one million euros (approximately R$ 6 million) for the deal, with an obligation to purchase tied to contractual goals, which would raise the total value of the transaction to 6 million euros (about R$ 35.8 million).
Arthur Chaves was revealed by Avaí and was transferred while still young, at age 21, to Académico, in Portugal. Subsequently, he was sold to Hoffenheim, where he had not been going through a good spell. Internally, the club sees him as a high-potential athlete who was not having a great period in Europe.
Botafogo's scouting department mapped the player and had already tried to sign him on other occasions. Besides Botafogo, the defender was also of interest to Vasco, São Paulo, and other German clubs during this transfer window.
Although right-footed, Arthur Chaves has the ability to play on both sides of the defense, being seen as a versatile defender. The club hopes he can contribute to the remainder of the season.
