The São Paulo Open Boxing event will bring together athletes from 13 states between September 21 and 26, at CER Edson Arantes do Nascimento, known as Pelezão, in the city of São Paulo. The competition will be held in the elite category and is part of the national calendar of a sport in which Brazil has become accustomed to competing for medals in major international tournaments.
In addition to the medals at stake, the Open carries weight in the season because the results obtained in the tournament are counted toward the National Ranking. The points follow the athletes' performance in competitions throughout the calendar and increase the importance of each bout contested in the event.
The President of the Brazilian Boxing Confederation, Dr. Marcos Brito, highlighted the dimension of the championship in the national scene. According to him, in addition to the points for the National Ranking, the results can also be used as reference for obtaining the Athlete Grant, as well as serving as proof of continued sports practice for those already receiving the benefit.
