The "Cinto-me Vivo" campaign was launched by ANSR, GNR and PSP between September 8 and 14, with the aim of reinforcing the correct use of safety devices on Portuguese roads. The initiative is integrated into the National Enforcement Plan and the Vision Zero 2030 strategy, which aims to reduce road accidents.
The campaign combines awareness-raising and enforcement actions. ANSR develops in-person activities and digital content for drivers, while GNR and PSP intensify operations on the ground, especially in higher-risk locations. Data between 2021 and 2024 reveal that more than eight thousand passengers traveling in the back seat without adequate restraint systems were involved in accidents, resulting in 274 serious injuries and 69 deaths.
Safety devices are highlighted as essential tools for saving lives. A correctly installed child restraint system reduces the risk of death by more than 70%, while an approved helmet reduces by 40% the probability of a fatal victim in accidents involving two-wheeled vehicles.
The campaign calls for the adoption of responsible behaviors, such as confirming seat belt use in all seats of the vehicle and ensuring that children travel in appropriate restraint systems, as simple and effective measures to prevent serious consequences on the roads.
