President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva is meeting with close aides at the Palace of the Dawn on Tuesday morning to evaluate the reaction to the decision by Minister André Mendonça, of the Supreme Federal Court, who preventively removed Andrei Rodrigues from the position of director-general of the Federal Police. Among the ministers present is Sidônio Palmeira, from the Social Communication Secretariat.
Lula was with members of the campaign coordination team when he learned of the minister's decision. The actions of André Mendonça, who is the rapporteur of the Master case, of the inquiries investigating Fábio Luis Lula da Silva, known as Lulinha, and of the INSS fraud, had already been viewed with suspicion by the government, due to a series of leaks about these investigations.
Minister of the Attorney General's Office, Jorge Messias, announced that he will appeal Mendonça's decision. The preventive removal of the Federal Police director-general occurs in the context of the investigations conducted by the STF.
