Artur Correia da Silva, known in Almeirim as Artur Galinha, died this Tuesday, September 8, at the age of 89. A well-known figure in the local community, he leaves behind a legacy linked to commercial activity, restaurant business, military life, and civic participation in the municipality.
A former Major Sergeant Parachutist of the Portuguese Army, Artur Galinha also stood out in the city's business life, having been the owner of the grocery store and restaurant O Galinha. In addition to his professional activity, he maintained an active participation in local civic and political life.
In the 2013 local elections, he was a candidate for the presidency of the Parish Council of Almeirim for the coalition Amar a Terra, formed by the Social Democratic Party, the Democratic and Social Centre, and the Earth Party. More recently, he joined the list of the coalition Agora as Pessoas, composed of the Social Democratic Party, the Democratic and Social Centre, and the Liberal Initiative, in the 2025 local elections.
