The hearing focused on controversial issues involving the minister that have been generating opposition from the Chega party and other political forces.
The minister admitted the existence of "informalities" in the performance of his duties, acknowledging possible procedural failures, but categorically refused to be in direct confrontation with the leader of Chega, André Ventura. This position contrasts with the more aggressive tone that had marked previous interventions.
The parliamentary left, which had initially shown solidarity with the minister, retreated in its defense during the committee. This change in position indicates a growing discomfort with the political situation surrounding the minister.
José Luís Carneiro left, however, a clear guarantee to the deputies: he will not step down, expressing his intention to continue exercising the office even in the face of the political pressure received.
