The British government denounced the existence of "ethnic cleansing" carried out by Israeli settlers in the West Bank and announced a set of sanctions against the settlements in the region. The measures include a ban on importing goods produced in the settlements, which are considered illegal under international law.
Portugal signed a joint declaration as part of these measures. The United Kingdom also revealed that other European countries joined the initiative to impose trade restrictions on products from Israeli settlements.
Both Israel and the United States criticized the sanctions announced by the United Kingdom, expressing their disagreement with this position.
