PCP has again contested the reorganization of the Oncology Unit at Portalegre Hospital, demanding public clarification from the Board of Directors of ULS Alto Alentejo. The party considers that the explanations presented by the administration are "inconsistent", one week after the controversy began. At issue is the reduction of the consultation period provided by the current oncologist, which now represents approximately half of the activity carried out until August, contradicting the administration's previous position that denied any reduction and justified the hiring of a new professional as a reinforcement of the service.
PCP argues that the Oncology Unit in Portalegre had no waiting times for first consultations or for the start of oncological therapy, presenting clinical results on par with the best in the country. The party also highlights the absence of relevant complaints and the mobilization of hundreds of citizens in defense of the service as signs of the population's confidence in the care provided. PCP questions the reasons that led to the reorganization of a service that it considers to have good results, defending that the administration's obligation is to explain the problems it intends to solve and the concrete gains it hopes to achieve.
The party also compares the situation of Oncology with constraints existing in other areas of ULS Alto Alentejo, pointing to difficulties in Orthopedics in regularly ensuring the emergency roster, which allegedly functions only on part of the days of the week, and to the situation of the district's Maternity, which continues to face problems that require the referral of pregnant women to other units. Given this scenario, PCP questions the decision to concentrate efforts on reorganizing a service with good results, defending that the defense of the National Health Service involves correcting existing problems but also preserving responses that function effectively.
The Secretariat of DORPOR of PCP demands public clarification of the situation and considers that the population of Alto Alentejo must know the reasons behind the reorganization and the concrete objectives that the administration intends to achieve. The party considers that the reorganization was not accompanied by a concrete demonstration of gains for patients and that the known data point to a decrease in the previously existing care capacity.
