The president of the Intermunicipal Community of the Leiria Region, Jorge Vala, considered the maximum support of 60% from the Municipal Emergency Fund for the municipalities affected by the storms at the beginning of the year "manifestly insufficient," arguing that this amount should be increased to 85% or 100%, as has happened in other situations. Jorge Vala added that there is an expectation of a proposal in the Assembly of the Republic to that end, noting that the 40% municipal co-payment represents a very significant burden on municipal treasuries. The mayor also expressed concern that significant investments in civil protection, such as the removal of waste and woody material costing over nine million euros, are not covered by the available support.
