The Municipality of Mértola inaugurated the new School Centre of Mértola on September 7th, at a ceremony that saw strong participation from the educational community and the general public. The solemn session was attended by the Secretary of State for School Administration, Maria Luísa Oliveira, the President of CCDR Alentejo, Ricardo Pinheiro, and the Mayor of Mértola, Mário Tomé, as well as various local entities, parents, students and technicians.
The approved eligible investment for this infrastructure was €2,229,600.35, receiving European Regional Development Fund financing of €1,244,740.00, corresponding to a co-financing rate of 55.83%.
The Mayor of Mértola, Mário Tomé, considered the School Centre a decisive investment for the future of the territory, stating that children and young people represent the future of the municipality and that the project fulfills a long-term vision for education based on an integrated teaching model. The Secretary of State for School Administration praised the investment made by the Municipality in education, while Ricardo Pinheiro classified the work as a magnificent work that competes with the best done at the Education scale.
The new School Centre constitutes a modern and functional space, providing better conditions for children's learning and development, as well as for the work of education professionals. With this inauguration, the Municipality of Mértola reinforces its commitment to qualifying public facilities and to education as a fundamental pillar for the sustainable development of the territory.
