United Kingdom bans trade with Israeli settlements in the West Bank

The British government banned on Tuesday the trade of goods and services with Israeli settlements in occupied Cisjordania. This measure represents a significant shift in United Kingdom policy regarding Israeli colonies.

The decision was made because the British executive considers that the expansion of these settlements harms a two-State solution for the Palestinian-Israeli conflict. The United Kingdom thus joins other countries that have already taken similar measures regarding trade with these colonies.

Israeli settlements in Cisjordania are considered illegal under international law, although Israel disagrees with this position. The international community has been pressuring Israel to halt the expansion of these colonies as a way to advance peace in the region.
