Portuguese 15-year-old students have registered a new deterioration in their performance in Mathematics and Reading, according to results released this Tuesday. Achievement levels in these two subjects have retreated to values similar to those recorded in 2006, representing a significant deterioration compared to previous assessments.
With regard to Science, the results of Portuguese students stabilised, not showing the same decline observed in the other two areas. However, these results remain below the levels achieved in 2015, indicating that there was no recovery compared to that period.
The assessment refers to the performance of 15-year-old students, constituting comparative international data that allows monitoring the evolution of the quality of education in Portugal over the years. The retreat to 2006 levels suggests a worrying trend of loss of basic skills in these domains.
