Luís Neves says he will only leave the post if the prime minister wants him to

TVI Notícias8 September 2026 at 13:27

The Minister of Internal Administration, Luís Neves, is being heard in Parliament and used the occasion to clarify his position on continuing in the post. The government official stated that he will only leave his post when the government ends or when the prime minister dismisses him, thus rejecting the political pressures that have been emerging.

During the hearing, Luís Neves admitted some errors related to the controversial renovations carried out at his house, as well as to his income declaration. However, the minister guaranteed that he never harmed the State and that he always acted within the law.

This parliamentary hearing comes at a time of increasing scrutiny over the minister's conduct, with several opposition parties demanding his resignation. Luís Neves's position, however, seems clear: he will only leave the post by express wish of the prime minister or with the end of the current Executive.
