Singapore's Prime Minister, Lawrence Wong, will receive an increase of S$ 1.4 million in his annual compensation package, equivalent to R$ 5.6 million. With the adjustment, his remuneration will rise from S$ 2.2 million (R$ 10 million) to S$ 3.6 million (R$ 14.5 million) per year, representing an increase of over 60%. Wong is already the highest-paid political leader in the world.
The Prime Minister stated that he intends to allocate the raise amount to charitable institutions over the next five years. The adjustment will also reach ministers and other public office holders in the country.
Before the change, Wong already earned more than other heads of government and state. According to BBC data, John Lee, Hong Kong's Chief Executive, receives about US$ 719 thousand per year. Guy Parmelin, President of Switzerland, has remuneration of US$ 606 thousand, while Donald Trump, President of the United States, receives US$ 400 thousand.
