A small private plane with four people on board went missing on Monday during a flight between Great Harbour Cay, in the Bahamas, and Florida, in the United States. Bahamian authorities and the U.S. Coast Guard mobilized teams to search for the aircraft, which reportedly crashed into the sea west of Andros Island.
Among the missing are pilot Mario Lamar, 80, his wife Lili Lamar, 79, and the couple's two grandchildren: Sofia Sosa, 28, and Christian Sosa, 22. The family had spent the Labor Day holiday at their home in Great Harbour Cay before beginning the return trip, according to the Miami Herald.
Data from the FlightAware platform indicates that the plane, a PA-34 Piper, showed speed fluctuations and a sharp drop in altitude before losing contact with the control teams.
