The Eiffel Tower reopened on Tuesday, one day after a workers' strike protesting the exclusion of female workers during the visit of a Hindu delegation to the monument in Paris. Visitors were already passing through security checks at the foot of the tower shortly before 9:30 a.m., according to an AFP journalist.
The stoppage occurred after workers said they were "moved" by the treatment given to female workers during the visit on Saturday. According to a statement sent to AFP by the CGT union, "professional instructions" led to the "marginalization, substitution, and invisibilization of female workers because of their gender."
The operator company of the Eiffel Tower, SETE, recognized that the Indian delegation had requested that the visit be organized in a way to limit "interactions with women." The company stated that "these conditions should not have been accepted."
The delegation visited the Eiffel Tower on the sidelines of the inauguration of a Hindu event in Paris.
