The mayor of Matosinhos criticized housing management by IHRU (Institute for Housing and Urban Rehabilitation). The mayor pointed out flaws in how the organization has been managing housing projects in the municipality.
The municipal executive also expressed criticisms regarding the funding made available by the Government for the construction and rehabilitation of housing. According to the mayor, the central executive only finances 60% of these operations, which it considers clearly insufficient.
The mayor concluded that many municipal councils do not have the financial capacity to cover the remaining 40% of costs associated with housing projects. This limitation compromises the capacity of municipalities to meet the housing needs of the population.
