Germany defended that arms shipments to Israel comply with international rules. The position was presented within the framework of a lawsuit brought by Nicaragua against Berlin at the International Court of Justice.
In April 2024, the International Court of Justice refused to impose provisional measures on Germany within the framework of this case. Nicaragua was the country that brought the action against the German government.
In its argumentation, Nicaragua argued that, since October 2023, there was "a recognized risk of genocide against the Palestinian people." This was the fundamental basis of the case brought by the Central American country against Germany.
