The Guardia Civil detained on Monday seven people on a beach in Águilas, in the region of Murcia, in Spain. The detention occurred after authorities detected a suspicious vessel off the coast of this municipality.
The seven occupants of the vessel were intercepted upon arriving at the beach and were immediately detained by the security forces present at the scene.
The information was confirmed by the Government Delegation, which did not specify the origin of those detained or the exact circumstances that led to suspicion about the vessel.
This type of intervention falls within the regular coastal surveillance operations that Spanish authorities carry out in the Mediterranean to control migratory flow through irregular vessels.
