China excavates first tunnel of railway to reach Europe without passing through Russia

SAPO Notícias7 September 2026 at 19:00

China concluded the excavation of the first tunnel of the future China-Kyrgyzstan-Uzbekistan railway line, a project that aims to create a new commercial route between China and Europe without passing through Russian territory. The tunnel, located in Kyrgyzstan, is only 209.6 meters long, but represents a significant milestone in the construction of this transportation infrastructure.

The railway line is part of a project with continental ambitions, connecting China to Central Asia and potentially to Europe through an alternative route to the traditional one that crosses Russia. This route represents a diversification of cargo transport options between the two regions.

The work advances step by step in Kyrgyz territory, where geographic and climatic conditions challenge the engineers. The project promises to transform commercial relations in the region, offering a new route for the transportation of goods between the Far East and the European continent.
