The British government classified as "hooligans" the hundreds of hooded activists who blocked roads to prevent 140 asylum seekers from entering the port city of Portsmouth, in the south of the United Kingdom, after arriving on a small boat. Sunday night's protest was the second anti-migrant demonstration of the weekend.
Groups also blocked access to the port of Dover, in southeast England, the previous Saturday, marking a weekend of intense anti-immigration protests in the country.
A spokesperson for the UK Home Office issued a statement condemning the incident: "We condemn the intimidating and hooligan behavior we saw last night in Portsmouth."
Emma Reynolds, chief secretary to the Treasury and member of the British Parliament, commented on the case to Sky News, adding her position on the events.
