Volkswagen is going to sell one of its factories, which currently produces vehicles, to an investment of Israeli origin. The manufacturing unit was planned for automobile production, but from now on it will be dedicated to weapons production.
The jobs at the factory will be preserved in the sale agreement. Workers at the unit should not be affected by the change of owner and activity.
Vehicle production at the factory in question is expected to end next year, making way for the new activity in the defense sector. This sale represents a significant change in the industrial vocation of the unit.
The deal comes in a context where Volkswagen has been restructuring part of its operations, seeking to optimize production capacity and focus on more profitable segments of the automotive market.
