Hospital Condessa das Canas reborn 140 years later

The Hospital Condessa das Canas, in Arganil, reopened its doors 140 years after its original foundation, after a process of complete recovery of the historic building. The hospital unit now has 36 beds available for patients.

The hospital offers three types of health care responses: convalescence care, palliative care, and long-term continuing care. These services aim to meet the different needs of patients in the region.

The recovery project was developed by Santa Casa da Misericórdia, the entity responsible for managing and developing the new hospital. The historic building was subject to a complete recovery, preserving its original design.

With this reopening, the municipality of Arganil and the entire Beira Serra region recover a hospital unit that had been missing in the territory, returning to local inhabitants a health response that had not existed for several decades.
