Jornal 3607 September 2026 at 10:30

More than 600 million euros from the Recovery and Resilience Plan were applied in the Northern region on projects in the areas of Health and Education. In Health, the investment amounts to approximately 450 million euros and includes about 170 interventions for the construction and requalification of health centers promoted by the municipalities, also covering the National Network of Integrated Continuous Care with approximately 80 planned interventions. The works allowed for strengthening the response to the population with new services such as dental medicine offices, diabetic foot consultations and community health teams, as well as the acquisition of electric vehicles for home healthcare.

The PRR also allowed for strengthening the technological capacity of hospital units, with 14 Local Health Units and IPO Porto receiving diagnostic and treatment equipment. Among the investments are surgical robots, linear accelerators, magnetic resonance imaging and computed tomography equipment, angiography machines, gamma cameras and PET equipment.

In Education, the investment amounts to 158.8 million euros distributed across 29 applications. The Northern region contributed to the renovation of 22 schools, with all works completed by August 31, exceeding the targets set for the region. The seven remaining interventions have substantial completion reports.

According to Álvaro Santos, president of CCDR NORTE, the investment represents a change in the response capacity of public Health and Education services, resulting from the joint work between municipalities, Local Health Units, IPO Porto and social institutions.
