Vidigueira will host on Saturday, September 12, the Intermunicipal Assembly of the Association of Portuguese Wine Municipalities (AMPV), during which the Wine City 2027 will be elected. The meeting is scheduled for 4:00 PM at the Multifaceted Center of New Technologies in Vidigueira, in Baixo Alentejo, placing the region at the center of the decision on the next Portuguese territory to receive the title. The choice takes place in a year of particular significance, since Vidigueira is part of the Baixo Alentejo – European Wine City 2026 territory, a distinction that has framed various initiatives related to wine culture throughout this year.

According to the AMPV calendar, interested member municipalities could submit applications until September 3, followed by the period between September 4 and 11 for the formal submission of their respective files. Among the candidate municipalities is Câmara de Lobos, in Madeira, whose application dossier was identified as "Application Submission — Wine City 2027" and dated September 2026. However, AMPV has not made public the complete list of admitted applications, so it is not possible to anticipate all municipalities that will be subject to voting.

The Intermunicipal Assembly will also have other matters for discussion, including the admission of new member municipalities, the Network of Wine, Olive Grove, and Cork Parishes of Portugal, the Wine Cities Competition 2027, and the European Region of Gastronomy and Wines. The meeting in Vidigueira precedes another important decision related to the promotion of European wine territories, since the European Wine City 2027, a distinction that next year will belong to France, is expected to be announced on September 23 during a meeting of the Board of Directors of RECEVIN at the European Parliament.
