'In the market, some laugh, others sell tissues,' says 'Bitcoin Pharaoh' in testimony where he admitted asset manipulation

oglobo7 September 2026 at 08:30

In unprecedented testimonies given in court, Glaidson Acácio dos Santos, known as the "Bitcoin Pharaoh," and his wife Mirelis Yoseline Diaz Zerpa detailed how the fraudulent scheme worked, which, according to authorities, moved more than R$ 38 billion and may have left 77,000 victims. The excerpts were revealed by the Fantástico program on TV Globo.

In his testimony, Glaidson admitted to being a cryptocurrency "whale," a nickname given to investors who hold amounts of assets sufficient to influence market price. According to him, this position allowed him to manipulate other cryptocurrencies and contact other participants in the scheme.

The couple faces a lawsuit that will determine if they committed crimes against the financial system. The process has entered its final stretch, but one mystery remains unsolved: the exact value stored in the Pharaoh's crypto wallet, which remains unknown.
