The Portuguese government has changed its strategy and no longer plans to charge for the Digital Business Wallet. Initially, at the beginning of the year, the Minister for State Reform, Gonçalo Matias, had admitted the possibility of charging for more advanced features of this service. However, an official source from the Ministry of State Reform confirmed to ECO that the Digital Business Wallet is made available to companies free of charge, with no planned changes to that cost level.
The Ministry of State Reform clarified that new services will be made available on the platform during this month. The official presentation of the Digital Business Wallet had taken place in January, at which time Gonçalo Matias stated that the version presented then was free, leaving open the possibility of charging for more developed features in the future.
This reversal in the Government's position comes at a time when the platform is expanding its services. The decision to keep the service free may be related to the need to encourage the adoption of this digital tool by Portuguese companies, in a context of modernization of public administration.
