The former president of the airline Plus Ultra, Julio Martínez Sola, was summoned to testify this Monday at the Spanish National Court. The objective is to clarify the alleged participation of former government president José Luis Rodríguez Zapatero in granting a 53-million-euro rescue package to the airline.
Julio Martínez Sola had reportedly already confessed to some facts related to the case, and must now ratify or expand on those statements before the judge investigating the operation.
The multimillion-euro rescue granted to Plus Ultra generated controversy and opened a judicial investigation to determine whether there were irregularities in the way the financial aid to the airline was approved.
The case involves high-level political figures, as the aim is to clarify whether there was political interference in the decision to grant the public funds to the airline company.
