Without citing criticisms in PF report, Messias says public function is not guided by 'friendships' and affirms he has Lula's backing

The Attorney General of the Union, Jorge Messias, stated in a note this Sunday that public action cannot be governed by "friendships or affinities". The position comes days after the revelation of an intelligence report from the Federal Police that questions the refusal to file with the Supreme Federal Court appeals that the corporation was seeking to challenge decisions by Minister André Mendonça in the investigations into Banco Master and INSS fraud.

Messias said that state matters must be dealt with impersonality, technical foundation and transparency. He stated that public function must never be guided by friendships, affinities or personal circumstances, but by the Constitution and the rules of the Republic.

The head of the AGU also said he has the "backing" of President Lula to exercise the function with "technical independence, legal rigor and absolute fidelity to the Constitution".
