The prime minister of Cape Verde promised a "serious and deep" investigation to determine the causes of the accident that occurred on the island of Fogo. The overturning of a bus transporting 39 people resulted in 25 dead and 14 injured, the majority of the victims being children and young people.
The local authorities released the latest count, according to which thirteen of the victims remain hospitalized at the Regional Hospital São Francisco de Assis. Emergency teams and the competent authorities are working at the scene and providing follow-up to the survivors.
The Cape Verdean government expressed condolences to the families of the victims and assured that all necessary support will be provided to those affected by this tragedy.
