Palha Blanco Bullring celebrates 125 years with gala bullfight at October Fair

Jornal e Rádio Valor Local Regional – Grande Lisboa, Ribatejo e Oeste6 September 2026 at 21:52

The Palha Blanco Bullring, in Vila Franca de Xira, is preparing to celebrate 125 years of history with a gala bullfight that marks the opening of the October Fair. The show is scheduled for Sunday, October 4th, at 6 PM, and will also include a tribute to 125 personalities and institutions linked to the trajectory of this emblematic Portuguese bullring.

The cartel brings together different generations and expressions of bullfighting. On horseback will be Miguel Moura and Tristão Ribeiro Telles, two young horsemen who have stood out in the current season, facing three bull ranches of recognized prestige. The bullfighting on foot will be left to Spanish matador Daniel Luque, a leading figure in international bullfighting who thus returns to Vila Franca de Xira for this special date.

Six bulls will be in the ring, two from Murteira Grave, two from Sommer d'Andrade and two from Falé Filipe, in a combination that adds demand and diversity to the show. The bull-catching will be handled by the Forcados Amadores de Montemor and the Forcados Amadores de Vila Franca, in a confrontation that is also announced as a competitive environment between the two historical groups of Portuguese bull-catching.

The organization presents the bullfight as one of the great dates of the season at Palha Blanco and a celebration of 125 years of Vila Franca bullfighting memory, reinforcing the connection between the monument, bullfighting and the very identity of Vila Franca de Xira.
