Constraints at Regional Obstetrics Emergency Departments Forced Diversion of Several Pregnant Women to Other Health Units. The situation affected the normal functioning of emergency services dedicated to the gynecology and obstetrics area.
During the month of July, the Regional Gynecology/Obstetrics Emergency Department in Loures faced several days with significant constraints. This hospital unit also serves the population of Vila Franca de Xira Hospital, expanding the area of influence and the demand on the service.
The limited capacity was one of the main problems identified. With only five beds available in the delivery room, the emergency department could not respond to all pregnant women who sought the service, forcing the redirection of patients to other institutions.
