Eduardo Pestana, from the Associação Desportiva e Cultural do Jardim da Serra (AJS), and Solange Nunes, from the Grupo Desportivo do Estreito (GDE), won the XXVI edition of the Grande Prémio Companhia de Bombeiros Sapadores do Funchal "Carlinhos Fernandes", which took place this morning in Funchal.
In the men's race, Eduardo Pestana was the fastest to complete the course, finishing in 16 minutes and 37 seconds. Edwin Nunes, from the Associação Desportiva e Recreativa de Água de Penha de França, finished in second place, just three seconds behind the winner.
Solange Nunes was crowned winner in the women's category. The athlete from the Grupo Desportivo do Estreito joined Eduardo Pestana at the top of the classification of this competition, now in its 26th edition.
The Grande Prémio, which bears Carlinhos Fernandes's name in his honor, is one of the benchmark events in the sporting calendar of the Funchal region, bringing together athletes from various sports associations and groups across Madeira.
