Twenty-one migrants were repatriated to Morocco after throwing stones at a military patrol in Ceuta. The Spanish Guardia Civil was the security force involved in responding to this incident at the land border between Ceuta and Morocco.
The migrants were given the possibility to choose between two options: return voluntarily to Morocco or give testimony before the competent court. This choice was possible because the migrants had no registered criminal records.
Given the absence of criminal records, all 21 migrants chose to return voluntarily to their country of origin, Morocco, thus avoiding the judicial process in Spain. This decision allowed for a quicker resolution of the situation without resorting to the courts.
The incident occurred in the border area of Ceuta, a Spanish enclave on African territory, which has been frequently the scene of irregular entry attempts by migrants coming from Morocco and other countries on the African continent.
