The 15th stage of the Vuelta a España was concluded with a victory by Wout van Aert in Córdoba, repeating the feat he had already achieved in the Andalusian capital two years ago. The day closed the second week of competition at the Vuelta.
The temperatures in Córdoba exceeded 40 degrees, which led to an unprecedented decision to shorten the stage by 70 kilometers, leaving it with only 110 kilometers. This measure was taken by mutual agreement between riders, teams, organization and judges.
The heat was described as inhuman, being one of the main difficulties faced by cyclists during the stage. The reduction of the route aimed to protect the physical integrity of the participants.
Enric Mas finished the stage without problems, maintaining the red jersey of leader of the general classification. The Spanish rider thus continues in command of the Vuelta a España after this day.
