The Local Health Unit (ULS) of Alto Alentejo issued a statement to clarify recent information about the Oncology Unit, guaranteeing that the care provided to oncology patients will not be reduced. According to the Board of Directors, measures are being prepared to reinforce and develop oncology services in the region.
The institution announced the reinforcement of differentiated human resources, as well as improvements in the infrastructural and organizational conditions of the Oncology Unit. The main objectives include maintaining continuity of care for oncology patients, improving the quality and accessibility of services, and adequating the response to the growing number of clinical cases observed in Alto Alentejo.
The statement comes after news reports suggested a possible decrease in oncology services. ULS Alto Alentejo rejects this interpretation, stating that the path forward is strengthening oncology services with quality and safety.
However, the statement does not clarify whether Rui Dinis, current director of the Oncology Unit, will remain in his position. A public petition titled "Say NO to the reduction of Oncology consultation services by Dr. Rui Dinis" already has 2,547 signatures. Rádio Campanário requested interviews with the Board of Directors and the Medical Director, but received no response.
